About 2000 years ago the Romans ruled England. During the years 122-136 the Emperor
Hadrian built a wall (see map) to keep out invaders from the north.
The wall was 8-10 ft wide and 15ft high.
It was 73 miles long. At intervals along the wall were 16 forts ....
(The Emperor Antoninus Pius also later built a wall, but this was abandoned after only a few years)
