1952 – 1977 on the village sign commemorates the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
The ship is H.M.S Shannon, a frigate which fought the US frigate Chesapeake in the 19th century. The commander of the Shannon lived in Levington.

She loved a humble acountant and wanted to marry him,but her father was angry and said that she must marry a powerful duke.

The lovers escaped and lived happily together for several years.
However, finally the Mandarin's soldiers found the lovers and killed them
The gods were sad and transformed the lovers into 2 doves.

Here is the village sign.
You can see the church in the distance.
At the top of the sign we see St. Martin, the namesake of the village, who cut his military cloak in half and gave half to a beggar.
The brick carrier reminds us of the former brickworks here.
